Accessibility.
This site is built to be usable by as many people as possible, including with assistive technology.
What we have done.
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. Accessibility is treated as part of building the site, not as an afterthought.
Measures in place.
Text size control. The A/A buttons in the header enlarge every piece of text on the site by up to 30%, and your choice is remembered between visits.
Colour contrast. Body and interface text is measured against its actual rendered background, not assumed, and meets the 4.5:1 AA minimum.
Readable type. No body text on the site renders below 14px on a phone; captions and eyebrows stay at 13px or above.
Keyboard access. Every link, button, menu and the photo viewer can be operated from the keyboard, with a visible focus outline and a skip-to-content link.
Screen readers. Pages use real headings in order, landmark regions, descriptive link text, and alternative text on meaningful images. Decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology.
Reduced motion. If your device asks for reduced motion, animations, parallax and pointer effects are switched off.
Tap targets. Interactive controls are at least 44×44 pixels on touch screens.
Being honest about the gaps.
Some photographs carried over from the previous site are archive images whose original captions were not recorded; their alternative text describes the scene generally rather than naming everyone present.
The site has been tested with keyboard navigation and automated checks. It has not yet been through a formal audit with a screen-reader user.
